AN INSPIRATION TO THE CHILDREN OF SOWETO

During December 2011, a very special equestrian rider honoured us with visits and her time: Philippa Johnson. Born on 9 December 1974 in Johannesburg, Philippa grew up dreaming of someday becoming one of the country’s best dressage riders. At the tender age of 24 years, she was a professional dressage rider and was planning to go to Germany to be trained on top dressage level. Her dream was shattered when she became disabled in a car crash in which both her brother and fiancé were killed. As a consequence of the accident, Philippa lost all her strength in her right arm and 60% of the...

Avis 2011 Xmas Party

Avis sponsored and assisted at the annual Christmas party at the Centre. All the children who partake in riding and vaulting, as well as the disabled children from Adelaide Tambo School in Soweto who ride at SARDA on a weekly basis, were the honoured guests. Each child received a present from Father Christmas (no prizes for guessing who it was from the attached photos!)– presents kindly donated from Avis. Avis again showed the children from Soweto how much they care. Avis, from the Board of the Foundation and from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all the wonderful support you have...

SEF kids at Inanda Hunt

This was a first time experience for both the children and the horses and was thoroughly enjoyed by all – so much so that they will be participating in another hunt on 26 December 2011. The children were assisted by the more experienced hands and the horses were encouraged by their fellow equines to enter the water!!

ADP at Soweto Equestrian Foundation

On 2 December 2011, a team from ADP descended on the Centre in Soweto and started to transform it and the horses. Below is an extract from ADP’s write-up on the day: On December 2 2011, a bus, several cars and a motorbike or two arrived at Soweto Equestrian Centre and unloaded a hoard of strange but excited looking people, paint, poles, augurs, nails, hammers, rollers and all sorts of bits and pieces. ADP had arrived for their 1st annual charity day. Lesley Pearson, an ADP’er and admitted horse nut nominated Enos and his human and animal family to be a charity that was desperately in...

Enos visits London

It has been a busy two months!! Part of the “busy-ness” was Enos’ trip to London in November. Enos was invited by World Horse Welfare to address their annual conference. Read all about Enos’ experience below as told by Enos: My Trip to the United Kingdom Firstly, I would like to say a big “THANK YOU” to Marie Girard, for the brochure she had made and for the presentation she prepared for me for this wonderful trip. I remember the first time Marie and I met to go through the presentation and practice it, I was very nervous and my mouth dried up quickly.  The reason I was nervous...
