The Sports Trust
Wednesday 10 March 2010 - 13:10:30
We are delighted to have received a very welcome R20,000 grant from the Sports Trust to buy a surcinlge for our vaulting team and show jump uprights for the riding school. The surcingle, especially imported from Germany, means that our vaulters will have the finest sporting equipment available and will be a great asset as we build on the teams success in 2009. The activities of our riding school will be expanding in June this year and these jumps will be a great help in training new generation of Sowetan children to ride and compete.

Following on from our fantastic success at winning the Gauteng Vaulting championships, the Soweto Vaulters have gone on to win the South African Vaulting Championship. At a tense and competitive final in Kyalami, the team fought through to take the  coveted title. A fantastic result for the children and their coaching team. This historic win opens up the possibility of some of the Soweto Vaulters travelling to Kentucky in 2010 for the World Equestrian Games.

The Soweto Mixed Vaulting Team are Gauteng Champions
A fantastic result !! The Soweto Mixed Vaulting team have won the regional Gauteng championship. The competition, held over the weekend of the 7th and 8th of November, was a great experience for the team and many of the individual competitors. The hard work of the coaches and team members paid off. Having our own mini bus made the logistic of transporting children and horse so much easier. Once again, many thanks to Avis.  Though unfortunately  not ready for use at this competition, SANEF have funded a specialist vaulting horse for the Soweto team.  Thanks to SANEF and Tony Lewis. The Soweto Team will now represent Guateng at the South African championships  to be help from the 4th to 7th of December.

A fuller report of the weekend will appear shortly.

Monday 21 September 2009 - 19:44:00
THE SOWETO EQUESTRIAN CENTRE AND AVIS
For the past few years, AVIS have sponsored the Soweto Equestrian Centre with R15,000 toward their running costs.  While this has been greatly appreciated, the need is greater in the form of transportation of our young riders to the various events they participate in around the region.  AVIS have responded to a request and we are pleased to announce the AVIS hae agreed to sponsor the Soweto Equestrian Centre  with a minibus to meet our  needs for a year. AVIS have pledged to help Enos and the Equestrian Foundationl to raise funds to own the vehicle at a price which we will be reduce to around half its cost value to AVIS in a year’s time.

The minibus will be presented to Enos at the Avis Derby on the 4th October 2009. THANK YOU AVIS
