Welcome
Sport
At most of the equestrian events in the province and further a field, Enos and a group of his young riders can be seen competing. The children sleep in the stables when there are two or three day events, rising early to feed and groom the horses, always under the patient guidance of “Baba (father) Mafokate”. The Soweto Equestrian Centre will offer opportunities for riders to develop their skills in a wide range of equestrian sports including show jumping, dressage and vaulting.
![]() The South African Equestrian Federation, SANEF, have partnered with the Soweto Equestrian Centre to develop a vaulting training program for a Soweto based team. The team are now the regional and the national mixed team vaulting champions. ![]() Equestrian sports are almost unique in that it allows men and women, young and mature to compete on equal terms. When the centre is up and running it will open these doors to not just the fortunate few but also the many. On completion of the second and third phases the Soweto Equestrian Centre will also be able to host regional and national competitions. The Soweto Classis Show already attracts 900 entrants and it is hoped that the development of this Equestrian Centre will bring these activities into the heart of Soweto. We want to introduce and encourage people into equestrian sports who would previously never have had the inclination or opportunity to participate in these fantastic sports. ![]() Horses and riders will be tutored and be able to developed their competitive skills using the facilities and expertise of the Soweto Equestrian Centre and go on to compete successfully in regional and national competitions. However, our ultimate sporting aim is to identify, develop and support riders from the previously disadvantaged community who are able, and proud, to represent their country in international competitions. Sportsmen and women who are not just able to compete but determined to win. |
